did someone say impossible?

Crystal fucking Renn, man. She’s done what most fashion-savvy thought was unimaginable, unthinkable, even preposterous. As a plus size model she has officially become a supermodel. And no, I don’t mean in only some fashion circuits, I mean in all of them. Not only is she walking for Jean Paul Gaultier and Karl Lagerfeld (and has done so numerous times now) but she’s also doing editorials in every fashion magazine there is (I literally see her everywhere these days) and again I have to stress – the woman is not size zero. With curves, stunning features and such a great approach to the fashion industry, this woman is, in lack of words, badass. I saw her in an interview where she said “I think change is happening” and I couldn’t agree more. And you know what? About damn time, if you ask me. We say we appreciate beauty in all shapes and sizes but come on, that’s bs. I’m not insinuating that we see everything in black and white, but the fact is that people’s perception of beauty is simple-minded in a way that we don’t respond to our politically correct opinions in the practical sense. You might say curvy models are beautiful, but if you saw them on a runway we sure as hell know what you’re thinking. The why’s and what’s begin. People don’t take action, and they don’t really do anything about it. Until now.

But let’s focus on Crystal Renn. Now 24, Renn began her career as a “normal” model but had to struggle to get there by losing a considerable amount of weight. Determined to succeed, she lost about 90 pounds and got her modeling contract. But as a result of an unhealthy regime, her body suddenly gave out on her one day. That was the point when she decided to actually start eating again and continue modeling with her original body weight. Taking such a risky decision in the world we live in these days, Renn has become even more successful now than she was before, having covered Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar and many other magazines around the world.

Many have probably heard her success story before, but for those who haven’t I’m sharing it to you guys. Here’s some more photos of la belle Renn:

Audrey Horne (Twin Peaks) and Brenda Walsh (Beverly Hills 90210). Two completely different individuals that I gather inspiration from. I admire them both for their courage and fashion sense, so much that I look past Brenda’s overdramatic outbursts and Audrey’s inappropriate manners. But if I’m not mistaken, flaws makes perfect… correct?
